The Navigation and Direction School (NDS) is one of the professional schools in NNS QUORRA. The School was established on 19 Apr 82 with the objective of training personnel to specialize in Navigation and Direction (ND) in order to contribute towards the NN manpower and operational requirements. In specific terms, the School is mandated to train officers and ratings of NN in specialized professional courses for effective manning of NN vessels. In line with this objective, the School offers courses for different categories of officers and ratings.

Courses

The NDS offers courses for officers and ratings in accordance with the NN training policy, which holds that training shall be the focal point of NN operational efficiency.

Natural Sciences, Professional, General Warfare, Contemporary and Operations Phases. The Course is aimed at training student officers to be specialists in the ND Department

The STC spans 12 months, aimed at enlightening student officers to numerous subjects in the School, grouped into 4 Syndicates, and rotated through the 4 Seaman Professional schools

The SDPCT has been conducted only once since the inception of NDS and the Course is now being conducted at NNC Onne.

Refresher Courses is involved in delivering lectures to ships' crew during workup for operational exercises. Also, NDS takes active part in the Pre-joining Training (PJT) for ship's crew as well as Cadre programmes for CAPEX and Midshipman Commissioning Board Examinations.

The IRC, designed for ratings that excelled during the RPI Course and were thus recommended for instructional duties, is offered once a year and ends with an attachment to the Nigerian Navy Centre for Educational and Training Technology (NNCETT) for Instructional Techniques.

The RPI Course, designed for ratings that have successfully completed RP II Course and were so recommended. It runs twice a year with a 6-month duration for each. The Course commences with an initial 4 weeks Academic Phase and then the Professional Phase in the NDS.

This course is designed for ratings that have successfully completed the RP III Course. It runs twice a year with a 6-month duration for each course. The Course commences with an initial 4 weeks Academic Phase training and then the Professional Phase in the NDS.

The Nav-Yeoman Qualifying Course is designed for ratings that have successfully completed the RP III Course and were so recommended. The Course runs 3 times a year and it incorporates a 3-weeks attachment to the Nigerian Navy Hydrography School Borokiri, Rivers State.

This Course, designed for ratings that have just passed out from the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School (NNBTS) Onne. It runs twice a year with a 6-month duration for each course. The Course commences with an initial 4 weeks Academic Phase training and then the Professional Phase in the NDS.
